The view from Saruni Samburu
Perched on the top of a hill with an all-round view of Northen Kenya, Saruni Samburu is a new lodge that is introducing a fresh concept to an already well-known safari destination in Kenya. Built on the pristine land owned by the Kalama Wildlife Conservancy (240,000 acres of wild Africa in the GirGir Group Ranch, an ara as big as Malta and the Seychelles put togther), it is only seven kilometers away from the Northern border of Samburu National Reserve, a celebrated elephant sanctuary. The lodge will offer first-class safari experience in a totally un-spoilt environment, far from the beaten tracks but very close to the wildlife.
Saruni Samburu is at the moment under construction and will open on 1st June 2008. Owned and operated by Saruni www.sarunicamp.com in the Masai Mara, Saruni Samburu is a projected facilitated by the Northern Rangeland Trust www.nrt-kenya.org/home.html (Nrt), an umbrella organization developed by Lewa Wildlife Conservancy to promote tourism and conservation in Northern Kenya.
In the first phase, there will be six tented cottages, a large swimming pool with dramatic view over Samburu, an area for massage and beauty treatments called Samburu Wellbeing Space, and several areas to use as hides or view points for the waterholes that attract elephant, reticulated giraffe, zebra, oryx and all the species that make Kalama so special.
Saruni Samburu has its own private airstrip near the Kalama Wildlife Conservancy headquarters, but it is also easily served by the other airstrips of the area where scheduled flights land.
In addition to game drives to Samburu National reserve, Buffalo Springs National Reserve and West Gate Conservancy, our activities will include night and morning game drive in Kalama Conservancy, rock climbing, professionally-led game walks, bush dinners and star gazing. The traditions and semi-nomadic heritage of the local Samburu people are an important part of the experience. Led by professional Samburu guides, our guests enjoy a new dimension of this rightfully popular region: the feeling of exclusivity, of having an incredibly large area totally to their own, and a high level of comfort and tailor-made service.
